# Refractal

> Refractal is the runtime trust layer for enterprise AI agents. It intercepts every model tool call, enforces policy in under 50 ms, and writes an append-only audit ledger for every action — so regulated enterprises can ship Claude, OpenAI, and computer-use agents in production.

Refractal sits in-line between an agent and the rest of the world. Every tool call, API request, file write, and browser action is evaluated against a declarative policy (prompt-injection defenses, data-exfiltration rules, permission scopes, compliance controls) and resolved to a named decision in single-digit-millisecond time. The resulting ledger is append-only, replayable, and maps continuously to the EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, and SOC 2 Type II.

The three-pillar thesis:
1. **Security** — agents browse, click, query, and pay on a user's behalf; every tool call is a new attack surface, and LLMs remain structurally vulnerable to prompt injection, jailbreaks, and data exfiltration.
2. **Red-team** — each model has different security policies; companies need a uniform, testable surface over all of them.
3. **Regulation** — an over-arching security layer is what compliance teams, auditors, and regulators are going to require.
